Alessi 9091 Richard Sapper Kettle with Melodic Whistle

Richard Sapper created this kettle inspired by a childhood remembrance, the poetic sound of boats' sirens at River Rhine: this is because the melody that accompanies the vapour outlet must be pleasant and not anxious like the whistle of boilers.

Designed in 1983 by Richard Sapper, the kettle 9091 in stainless steel was the first of Alessi's "designer boilers". To avoid the usual ansiogenic noise produced by the kettles, Sapper has given the 9091 a melodic whistle made of brass and consisting of two small vents in which the tuners that reproduce the notes mi and si are inserted. When steam comes out, the two tuners create a pleasant short melody. The 9091 kettle is a polysensory object which will not interrupt an enjoyable break with a whistle, but with a captivating melody.
